Mock

Today we watched "The Dark Side of the Moon" and a Monty Python skit on the universe. "Dark Side of the Moon" is a mock film and gives many hints through out the film. I did not believe it from the beginning so I did not clue in much to the hints. Some of the hints were the CIA director speaking another language, interviews that make you think the people are all in the same room, but they never show two people in the same frame and they never let you here the questions so you could edit in anything you want. This film was completely fake while on the other hand the monty python clip was full of facts. Almost all of the lyrics in the song are true/ or at least close to. These clips really make you think about what is real and what is not. If this comedy was giving us real facts and the documentary wasn't. How do we know what the truth is?

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolvingAnd revolving at nine hundred miles an hour,That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,A sun that is the source of all our power. The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can seeAre moving at a million miles a dayIn an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,Of the galaxy we call the 'Milky Way'.Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars. It's a hundred thousand light years side to side.It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick,But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide. We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point. We go 'round every two hundred million years,And our galaxy is only one of millions of billionsIn this amazing and expanding universe. The universe itself keeps on expanding and expandingIn all of the directions it can whizzAs fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,How amazingly unlikely is your birth,And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.

footprints

The ?: What are the footprints (your impact) on an average day of your life?

My morning begins with a surge of electricity when I turn on the lights, I quickly get dressed and turn off the lights. I then head upstairs to consume some food. I usually follow this with using water to wash my face and brush my teeth. I then take the goose; A bus that is used for public transportation. After this I get to school and sit in a classroom for many hours. Finally it is lunch and I consume more food and water. I then go and sit in another classroom for a few hours and finally school is over. I then hang out around town for a few hours and once again take the public transportation home. I then eat more food and I will usually take a shower when i'm done. Then I go on the computer for a few hours and finally I catch some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's. In a day in my life I eat three meals and use a lot of water and energy. My impact is quite small compared to others, but I could still cut down a little bit. In a year or two my family will be solar powered so we can cut down more. Right now I take public transportation, my family does not have a dishwasher, we recycle and compost everything, and we grow many of our own vegetables. My family feels very strongly towards the environment and we try to cut back as much as possible.

The environment is very important and I try to keep my footprints very small. Right now I would say I am doing a good job of it. The only thing I can think about changing is how much time I spend on the computer and how much energy it waste. Yes I am doing homework most of the time, but I am also talking to friends and checking e-mails. The internet uses a lot of power so I should cut back on that. Once I have solar power it won't be that big of an issue, but for now I think that I should limit myself. Rather than that there is not much I can do.
